FSaryo Hosen is one of my favorite tea houses in Kyoto. It’s located in a quiet residential area near Shimogamo Shrine. Though it’s not very conveniently located, a lot of people come and enjoy its delicate Japanese sweets.

You can have tea and sweets in the traditional Japanese wooden townhouse, machiya. The atmosphere is tranquil and tasteful with a beautiful garden.

Every time I go there, I order warabimochi (bracken starch dumpling), which is made fresh to order. Maybe you’ll be surprised by its unique texture. It’s very smooth, but a little chewy. It’s sweet and authentic.

Now the warabimochi is 1,100 yen. The prices are not very cheap, but I think everything is great value for money. Of course, the service is nice, too.
